Wheels and Tyre Testing:

Rotating Bending Moment Test (Fatigue Test)

1. Introduction

The fatigue test facilitates allow testing of operational stability of disc wheels according to the regulations for testing of motor vehicle wheels. The method with stagnant disc wheel used by this machine allows short testing time and the observation of cracks at the test specimen. A high class computer system combined with a comfortable software allows a steady test realization. The bending moment will be applied by a rod situated in the middle of the machine. This rod is turned by a rotating mass out of balance.

2. Mechanic

All common pitch circles (13" - 22") can be clamped.

3. Most modern measuring electronic

The analogue measuring electronic consists of two channels for the measurement of the bending moment and the deflection of the rod.

The bending moment is measured by two strain gauges at the rod. These two strain gauges are offseted by 90 ° and their exit signals will be processed by a precision amplifier. The processed measuring signals are lead to the computer which adds the signals geometrically. This value describes the actual value for the calculation of the bending moment. The control is taken over by the computer digitally.

The rise of the deflection signalises the start of the crack at the disc wheel and is therefore an important criteria for the shut down of the machine.

4. Operating interface

Following settings can be adjusted:

  • number of load alternations

  • set value of bending moment and speed

  • limit value percentally increase of the way (criteria for shut down)

  • maximum speed (criteria for shut down)

  • maximum bending moment (criteria for shut down)

  • information regarding the specimen

Settings may be set or changed directly.
