Environmental Management according to ISO 14001:National Natural Gas System Operator (DESFA) S.A. certified by TUV AUSTRIA HELLAS | |
Following an on-site audit, TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas recently awarded a certificate of compliance to the National Natural Gas System Operator (DESFA) S.A. according to the provisions of the ISO 14001 Standard for its Environmental Management System. The range of the system and also of the awarded certificate covers the main office in Athens, the liquefied natural gas terminal station in Revithoussa Island and the operation and maintenance station of the southern, northern, central and northern east regions of Greece as well as the border metering station.
The National Natural Gas System Operator (DESFA) S.A. was established on 30th of March 2007, following the provisions of law 3428/2005 (Government Gazette 313/27.12.2005) on liberalization of the natural gas market. The above mentioned law aimed in the harmonization of Greek legislation with European Directive 2003/55/EC.
The activities of the company include the management, operation and maintenance of national gas transmission system & liquefied natural gas facilities, the construction management of national gas transmission system and supporting facilities and infrastructure and E.U. co-funded projects management.
Environmental protection is one of DESFA's top priorities. The basic aim of the company is to minimize the impact on the landscape, the natural resources and the atmosphere, in every region where the company is activate during the construction phase as well as during the operational stage, in consideration of the environment and encompassing the principles of sustainable development provisioned by the relevant Greek and European Legislation.
The conclusion of the certification procedure was a significant milestone, prompting TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas general manager Yiannis Kallias to declare: “With this certification, DESFA SA provides proof of its commitment to environmental protection. We offer our congratulations to everyone involved in this project”.
