The department of education at the Tyrolean branch of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce was first in all of Austria to introduce the quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 and have it audited by TÜV AUSTRIA CERT on February 24th/25th 2010. The Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce processes around 14.000 apprenticeship contracts, supports roughly 5.000 training businesses, visits approximately 1.000 businesses and conducts about 10.000 examinations with around 1.800 reviewers through its education department, which employs a staff of around 25. These figures reveal how precisely, efficiently and reliably processes have to be designed. The QMS according to the ISO 9001:2008 standard supports the employees significantly.
The certification project was carried out within a year. The head of the educational department emphasised that the preparations for the certification alone had created a new quality awareness, and that internal communications played a new and significant role in operations. As far as Chamber of Commerce President Jürgen Bodenseer was concerned, the ISO certification set a clear sign for the clients - the businesses, the apprentices and prospective masters - for it was not only a distinction, but a sign of transparency, and a sign that COC Tyrol not only demanded as well as advanced quality, but that it was itself committed to quality in its day-to-day work.
