Iran has entred a phase of determined industrialisation entirely unnoticed by the rest of the world. One of the main reasons of the TUV Austria representation in Tehran is the extremely active automotive industry. Furthermore TUV Austria takes part in the ambitious project for the conversion of the Iranian automotive fleet to CNG (natural gas) drive.
In the western part of the world only wage imaginations about Iran exist. For the most part it will be connected with terms like Orient, Islam, carpets and crude oil. This picture reflects the actual situation in Iran in small parts only. Relatively unnoticed by the West a considerable industry has developed. There is almost no product which is not produced in Iran. From household appliances, tools, machines, medical products to motor vehicles one can find everything self produced. Iran also stands for hospitality, fantastic fruits and vegetables, Caviar and cultural highlights.
Increasing demand for production and quality assurance Due to the industrialization and the opening of the country for exports safety and quality of products comes to the for. This induced TUV Austria to offer its services in Iran as well. Since 1998 TUV Austria maintains a representation in Tehran, which offers the bulk of the services. One of the main clients is the automotive industry. Beside the two big car manufacturers Iran Khodro and SAIPA there are a huge number of small and midsize suppliers, that work with TUV Austria services. Beside system certification, which was enlarged in the meantime from ISO 9001 to ISO 14001, HACCP and OHSAS 18001, the product certification becomes more and more important. TUV Austria certified products open the door for export and bring advantages at the domestic market by the impartial proved safety and quality. For a lot of products TUV Austria supports the manufacturers with the CE-marking and caries out the necessary notified body activities, mainly in the field of pressure vessels. Further TUV Austria has carried out the tests and the complete procedure including submission to the approval authority KBA (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt) for all main producers of screens for cars. The producers are now entitled to affix the E-mark.
Iran intends to convert to CNG (natural gas) Iran plans a very ambitious program for the next 15 years. It is planed to convert the main part of the motor vehicles to CNG drive. That means not only the conversion of the vehicles but also a respective gas station network has to be built up. TUV Austria takes part from the beginning. A contract regarding the inspection of the converted vehicles could be gained. The inspection of CNG gas stations is the next step. Iran has most modern laboratories in the field of motor vehicle and components testing at it disposal.
