Living Technology:

Guest Commentary by Dr. Gabriele Zuna-Kratky

Dr. Gabriele Zuna-Kratky, Director of the Technical Museum Vienna

In the Technical Museum Vienna (TMW) historical things and latest results are presented, new possibilities demonstrated and the dialogue with research and development is being conducted.

The TMW, which is celebrating 100 years of its existence in 2009, would like to be for the next 100 years too a house where the visitors can get to know topical and innovative things. We want to be an auditorium for scientists and technicians and a mediator between the public and science. Many exhibits show that major changes of society, environment and the world of work during the last two hundred years were very closely connected with the development of technology and science. It makes sense to reassure oneself again and again of the reality of this change and to return to the roots.

We will however need support and partnerships if we want to start the next 100 years of our housein a targeted and innovative manner. We have enjoyed a lifelong partnership with TÜV AUSTRIA of which we are very proud. The founder of our house,Wilhelm Exner, was after all – apart from many other functions – also one of the two founding fathers of today’s TÜV AUSTRIA.

In this sense it would give me great pleasure if you too would celebrate our jubilee with us and visit the Technical Museum Vienna.
