CO2 -emissions trade – a challenge to the industry
In the course of the Kyoto protocol the European Union has committed itself to reduce the CO2-emissions by 8 % compared to the base year 1990. Austria take part in this reduction with a national aim of 13 % reduction of CO2-emissions.
In this regard the EU has finalized the CO2-Emission Directive, which has been implemented into national law in Austria with BGBl. 46/2000 – EZG (emission certification law) dated 30-04-2004.
In the course of the implementation the national allocation plan with proposals for CO2-emission ratings in the different sectors has been created and submitted to the commission. The Austrian industry knows now the accepted emissions and starts with the realization of the duties laid down in the EZG.
Actual deadlines refer to the application for approval of the emissions and the demonstration of the monitoring methods as well as the implementation of the methods in the operational cycles.
